Hidden in the green hills of Štajerska is a small house made from red bricks – Nicholas Gee’s winery. Through a large bright blue wooden door, you enter this one room building. Here, Nick makes his wines marketed under the label “Heaps Good Wine”. Via a little wooden plank, you enter the rather humid cellar underneath the house where some of the wine is aged in old oak barrels.
Originally from New Zealand Nick has been living and making wines in Slovenia for over a decade. His wines are light, bright and energetic. The Pet-Nats are a speciality. Nick not only provokes with what he puts in the bottle, but also with his labels. Sometimes black and white, sometimes in bright colours, they are reminiscent of comic art.
